Creativity

Change

How does yoga as an art and science of
living relate to creativity?

How do you feel about change-making? Change can be self-created, like marriage or perhaps a relocation, while other shifts might be imposed on us through a break-up or a redundancy, and leave us sad, anxious or frustrated with uncertainty.

Some say that people who are creative are simply better at dealing with change, because we can adapt our thinking and emotions to allow for the flow of the unknown. Is that right?

Yoga addresses the skills that we actually need to live and thrive, as what truly prepares us for life, is how we expand our abilities to continue to evolve, think and act creatively. Yoga teaches us creativity by stretching and strengthening our minds — we learn how to recognise opportunity in challenges — it shows us new ways of seeing and doing.
Yoga expands our brains ability to be innovative.

Yoga implies we dare to stand out, we take risks to fuel deep insight.

As yoga teachers we often say that we “share our practice”, an expression emphasising how we remain open to further exploration, new insights and growth. Without self-inquiry and interacting with others, we risk getting stuck, or losing our ability to inspire the people around us.

The thoughts in this space are imperfect — it contains archived drafts of reflections that present us as vulnerable, and in progress — it is a brave space, a bit like your diary made public.

We kindly ask you to read it in the spirit of curiosity and union, not through the eyes of separation or harm. This is yoga — where we grow in community through kindness and generosity.

What could yoga,

of brand building?

Self-inquiry is a bit like pouring
petrol on fire, it accelerates the process
of change making. It moves people
from a place of fear to one of courage,
or from anger to forgiveness,
it helps them create a loving relationship
with themselves, a key factor towards
creating genuine happiness.
